José Roberto Bertrami is a legend as a musician and as member of Azymuth so this man just doesn’t do back albums, he doesn’t brilliant albums and his modern sound adventure is a trip for sure.
If you want 70s funk, ‘Ecstatic 70’; if you want 80s jazz-funk, ‘Eighties Times’, if you want brilliant dreamy string laden Latin, ‘Brilliante’ – you get the idea, each of these beautifully crafted 12 tracks is a little piece of José Roberto Bertrami’s adventure in music. And when you’ve spent 45 years in music, the majority of that time in the company of Alex Malheiros and Ivan (Mamão) Conti as Azymuth, Ze Roberto knows what he’s doing as this album was recorded live with some of the best musicians in Rio under the eye to label boss Joe Davis and David Brinkworth.
Obviously the emphasis is on the paino/keyboard and we can forgive the diner jazz of ‘Maixa’ as it’s only short and comes after the more Latin influenced ‘O Pescador’. But he’s lost none of his inventiveness, back in the 70s he used to travel to New York to buy all the lastest keyboards of the time. ‘Joanna’ is a bit trippy and the title track is just redicoulously funky psychedlic TV theme with big horns and ‘Danca De Salao’ sounds a bit like the theme from ‘Taxi’, but in Rio; real shame that it fades out as the trombone comes in.

This is Caterina Valente’s Live In Vegas album, the official bootleg recording of the very first appearance of Valente at the legendary Desert Inn. Caterina was on for 40 minutes and she sang 13 numbers to an absolute capacity audience including Ed Sullivan and Danny Kaye and bowed off to what could only be called an ovation. "A new star shines over Las Vegas, Caterina Valente celebrates a personal triumph !" That was the enthusiastic headline of the Los Angeles Times after opening night. She sang standouts like "Till" in Italian, "Malaguena/The Breeze and I" (in Spanish and English) and "Mack the Knife" in its original German. Her fresh approach to oft-heard numbers is a vocal treat. In addition to the Vegas concert, the CD contains four bonus tracks. It is known, that during the breaks for television or studio recordings, Caterina would often grab her guitar and perform requests for colleagues and collaborators such as "It Might As Well Be Spring," "Insensatez" and "Teu Olhar Triste" as heard on this recording . This clearly shows why Caterina is known the world over as one of the great bossa nova artists. Eric van Aro, found these historical musical jewels in the lavish audio archive of his mother Caterina and produced this CD release.
